Malka Marom began her career as a folksinger, in the popular duo Malka & Joso who were the first to bring world music to Canada. Their recordings with Capitol EMI Records topped the bestseller lists in Canada.

As a soloist, Marom performed on stage, TV, and radio in Canada, the U.S., South American, the U.K., Europe, and the Middle East.

She is also known and respected as a radio broadcaster and documentary maker. Her documentary A Bite of the Big Apple, an eight-hour exploration of the American Dream, was an ACTRA Award winner. Among her many other documentaries, Desert Diaries, My Jerusalem, and The Holocaust received nominations for the ACTRA Award.

Her documentary The Bedouins won the Ohio State Award. This documentary inspired Marom to study Bedouin Arabic, return to the Sinai, Negev, and Judean deserts, where she lived with five different Bedouin clans for months at a time.

Marom’s documentaries also explore music and musicians. She has profiled Joni Mitchell and Leonard Cohen among others. Her interview with Pablo Casals was the last Casals ever gave and drew praise from many, including renowned pianist Glenn Gould.

Marom will be speaking about Joni Mitchell, Both Sides Now as part of Court and Spark: An International Symposium on Joni Mitchell, hosted by the University of Lincoln on 3rd July, 2015. The rest of the day will feature papers by leading international academics, artists and performers on the much-loved musician and artist.

There will also be a book signing, following the Q&A.

With Joni’s world wide acclaim, are there plans to make record of the symposium available to the commoner? We are deeply interested, yet, can’t afford to come. We are eager to attain transcripts, pay to sign in online to be a fly on the wall, or watch youtube of the experience.

Thank you for you considerations and time.
sincerely, a devout Joni Mitchell fan

Hi Carron, thanks for your message. I have now released concession tickets for the Malka Marom event at £7.50 and made more concession tickets for the whole day’s event available at £25.00. There’s the possibility that the Malka Marom event will be made available as a video, but I’m still finalising arrangements for this. I’m afraid there won’t be a transcript made of the day, but there will be an edited collection of essays, at some point in the next two years, featuring developed papers from the day.
It would be great to have you there – I hope that the concessionary prices make that more feasible.
      Best wishes,
      Ruth
